Description
A PAIR OF ENAMELLED AND GEM-SET KUNDAN JHUMKA EARRINGS
Jaipur, North India, circa 1800–1850
A superb pair of royal Kundan Jhumka earrings, finely crafted in high-karat gold and decorated with exceptional Jaipur polychrome meenakari enamel in vivid red, emerald green and white. Each hemispherical dome is mounted with elegant pear-shaped Polki diamonds in traditional kundan settings, framed by delicately painted floral motifs and bordered with alternating green enamel ornament.
Suspended beneath each dome are numerous cascading strands of natural seed pearls, individually hand-strung to create the luxurious tasselled effect that characterizes the finest ceremonial jewellery produced for the princely courts of Rajasthan during the first half of the nineteenth century.
