Ancient Islamic Coin Silver dirham was struck at the al-Haruniya mint in Armenia during the reign of the famous Abbasid Caliph Harun al-Rashid (Abu Jafar Harun, b.alMahdi), who ruled from 786 to 809 AD. Dated to the year 171 AH (787/788 AD), this coin stands as a rare and valuable artifact from one of the most illustrious periods in Islamic history.

  • Obverse:

    The central inscription reads “Muhammad Rasul Allah Salla Allah Alayhi Wa Sallam” (Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace).

  • Reverse:

    Citing “Rajah” and three uncertain letters down, indicating specific mint or administrative details.

Harun al-Rashid is one of the most well-known Abbasid caliphs, renowned for his role in the Islamic Golden Age, a period marked by significant advancements in science, culture, and economy.
