Description
Ancient Islamic coin silver dirham, struck at the al-Haruniya mint in Armenia during the reign of Al-Mahdi (Abu Abd Allah Muhammad, b. al-Mansur), the third Abbasid Caliph, who ruled from 775 to 785 AD. Dated to the year 169 AH.
Obverse Inscription:
- The central inscription reads “Muhammad Rasul Allah Salla Allah Alayhi Wa Sallam” (Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace).
- The margin typically includes the Islamic creed and the date of minting in AH.
Reverse Inscription:
- The names of the heir Harun and the governor Khuzayma b. Khazim.
