pre-reform Islamic Coin Umayyad follis originates from Bilad al-Sham,Arab-Byzantine, specifically minted in Nysa-Scythopolis (Beisan, Beit Shan) between 670-690 AD. This coin represents the transitional phase between Byzantine and early Islamic coinage, reflecting both cultural influences in its design.

  • Obverse Inscription:
    • “CKYΘO ΠOΛHC” on the sides of the figures of Justin II and Sophia.
  • Reverse Inscription:
    • Large “M” with “ANNO” on the left and “YII” on the right, indicating the year of minting.
    • Below, officina mark “A” and “NIKO”  exergual line.

This pre-reform Umayyad follis from Bilad al-Sham is not merely a coin but a piece of historical art that captures the blend of Byzantine and early Islamic cultures.
