Ottoman Silver Niello Belt
Late Ottoman period, probably
19th century.
Composed of articulated silver segments richly decorated with granulated and faceted beadwork, each centered by finely executed oval niello plaques. The plaques alternate between imperial Ottoman motifs including the Sultan’s tughra, stylized floral devices, architectural and heraldic compositions, and symbolic decorative emblems rendered in deep black niello against a polished silver ground.
The elaborate buckle with raised repoussé and engraved ornament suspends delicate filigree tassels, preserving much of its original traditional character. The reverse stamped with provincial Ottoman tughras and Zigzaz stamps.
