Roman bone doll of venus Eastern Mediterranean, 1st-2nd century CE.
Carved from one large piece of bone, Two small holes on each shoulder where arms would have originally been attached. (Now missing), Neck mended.
The polos indicates that the doll represents a goddess. The elaborate coiffure, which reflects contemporary fashion, is typical for these dolls.
The dolls were used as toys, were placed in graves and may also served as votive gifts in the cult of Aphrodite or other local female deities.
