Description

Description

Ancient Roman Glass Bottle
1st–2nd Century CE

A finely blown Roman glass bottle featuring a tall, elegant profile. The vessel displays a conical lower body transitioning into a long, cylindrical neck, culminating in a broad, flaring rim with a flattened lip.

The glass is of a greenish hue, now richly covered with a natural earthy encrustation (sinter) and weathering deposits, giving the surface a matte, archaeological patina with areas of subtle iridescence beneath.

Such vessels were commonly used in antiquity for storing liquids such as oils, perfumes, or medicinal substances, and reflect the high level of craftsmanship in Roman glass production of the Eastern Mediterranean.
